National Radio Project, Oakland, CA

-Write, edit and produce weekly half-hour radio show.  Serve as back-up host.  Supervise interns.

            -Conduct field recordings, interviews, in studio interviews.

            -Assist in planning show topics and schedule

            -Help in promoting program, which airs on over 200 stations nationwide and overseas.

 

Senior News Reporter/Anchor                                            2/04-8/06

WMNF Radio, Tampa, FL

-Produced 1 or more news stories 5 day a week, covering local, regional, national and international news, activism, politics, etc  Anchored evening news show 3-5 times weekly.  Produced and anchored morning news headlines 2 times weekly.

-Served as substitute for News Director and Assistant News Director, producing hour long evening newscast, hosting public affairs talk shows, and responsible for broadcast of 4 hour mid day block of programs, station announcements, etc.

-On going training and daily supervision of several dozen news volunteers and interns in digital audio production, interviewing, story writing, field reporting, and in-studio reporting.  Organized monthly news team meetings/workshops.

-Served on hiring committee for volunteer coordinator position.  Attended staff meetings and participated in decision-making process.

-On air fundraising 5+ hours/day for 17-20 days annually.

-Awarded 1st place in 2006 National Lesbian and Gay Journalists Association/Seigenthaler Excellence in Radio Journalism competition; two 2nd place, and one honorable mention awards from Mid Florida Society of Professional Journalists-2004.

-Conducted news reporting training sessions in USA, Mexico, Bolivia, Algeria, Spain.

-Co-produced documentary on Coalition of Immokalee Workers.  Contributed to Pacifica Radio/FSRN coverage of 2003 National Media Reform Conference in St Louis, MO.

-Member of FSRN Steering committee.(2003-present)   Elected member of FSRN contract negotiations committee with Pacifica Radio(2004-present).

-Recruited, Supervised, Trained and Advised members of KBOOÕs Youth Collective.

-Assisted in production of The Underground, youth public affairs show.

-Coordinated and conducted trainings in digital editing, field recording, interviewing, story writing, reporting.

-Helped establish new program showcasing music by local youth.

            -Responsible for educating committee on hunger-related issues.

            -Work with local non-profits to choose and incorporate anti-hunger messages.
